Expanding Your Horizons Conference
Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) has a mission to provide young women with career information, role models, and positive hands-on experiences through a one-day annual conference so they become more interested in and aware of careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We also strive to enhance their confidence to succeed in STEM classes in middle school and beyond. Our conference annually serves 350 girls in grades 6 – 8 living in south central Wisconsin.
Outcomes
Outcome 1 – We intend for EYH to draw young women into more challenging preparatory math and science courses in middle and high school. When evaluating their interest in STEM courses, the number of participants who picked the statement “I want to take all courses offered in this subject” increased by an average of 6% post-conference in 2007. Outcome 2 – We expect the girls to show an increased interest in STEM careers. In 2012, 92% of participants said they learned about careers they hadn’t thought of before.
