Small Business Development Center at UW-Madison
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Madison has helped create and grow successful businesses since 1979. The SBDC staff of experienced business professionals teach seminars, answer questions, and provide one-on-one consulting for business owners in Dane, Columbia, and Sauk counties. In addition, the Wisconsin Business AnswerLine is Wisconsin's only small business hotline and available FREE to answer questions about starting or managing a business. The UW-Madison SBDC offers a full range of year-round business management seminars for both established businesses and start-up companies, and hosts a Youth Entrepreneur Camp on the UW-Madison campus annually.
Outcomes
The UW-Madison SBDC helped 261 clients with free business advising in 2009. Business advising helps people launch a new business, an existing business to grow, or helps the business deal with challenges. The SBDC also delivered 110 non-credit business management courses with 2,874 attendees. Courses provide education on finance, marketing, operations, supervision, and leadership. People with better management skills can better help their company prosper. The SBDC also runs the Wisconsin Business AnswerLine, a statewide small business hotline which answered 3,570 calls in 2009.
