Centralized Greenhouse System
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences operates several research and instructional greenhouses under a centralized management system, administered by the Agricultural Research Stations. The mission of the greenhouse operations is to provide quality plant growing space for research and instruction conducted by the departments and programs of the college. The current greenhouse operations include the Walnut Street Greenhouse complex, the D.C. Smith Greenhouse and Conservatory, the Soils Greenhouse complex, and two large open-span greenhouses at the West Madison Agricultural Research Station. This system also manages a 2.5 acre outdoor research plot at the Eagle Heights garden, near Picnic Point.
Outcomes
More efficient greenhouse management. Space available for instruction and research. Much of the research is on Wisconsin crops - directly beneficial to local farmers
