Understanding Dairy Markets
The "Understanding Dairy Markets" Web site was developed by the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research and the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at UW-Madison, and is the primary information delivery tool for the UW Dairy Marketing and Risk Management Program. It provides current and historical dairy market information, as well as information on dairy price-risk management, the use of dairy futures and options, and dairy policy. It includes price data for raw milk, cheese, dry milk products, butter and other manufactured dairy products. The developed curricula available on this site are especially useful. Definitions of terms, graphical representations of current dairy trends (prices, production, stocks), and alternative marketing options are also available.
Outcomes
Better understanding supply and demand factors can help sellers and buyers of milk make informed decisions about using tools such as futures and options to manage their price risks.
