ConjuGon Inc. Partnership
Marcin Filutowicz, a professor of bacteriology at UW-Madison, has made tremendous strides in combating antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Filutowicz sought to commercialize his findings in order to curb the growing epidemic of multidrug-resistant strains of bacteria, so he turned to the university's Industrial and Economic Development Research (IEDR) program for help with funding of his research. A 40-year-old program, IEDR assists UW researchers in bringing their ideas to the marketplace.
Outcomes
Filutowicz, along with partner Richard Burgess, a professor of oncology at the UW-Madison School of Medicine, formed ConjuGon Inc., a Madison-based biotechnology company. The goal of ConjuGon Inc. is to produce fundamentally new and more effective bacteria-fighting products, and they are currently in either the research or testing phases for three technologies that show promise in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
