Four new types of highway bridges have been developed and constructed as part of this program over the past 6 years. An entirely new type of bridge support structure was also built in 2008. Each of the projects used different, unique construction methods intended to simplify construction, improve worker safety, decrease construction time, reduce public annoyance and increase the durability and performance of the bridges. For example - the 2008 project reduced the time required to build a bridge support system from 14 days down to 3 days by using precast concrete components shipped to the site. The bridges have all received state or national awards for innovation.
