Chequamegon Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study
The Chequamegon Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study aims to understand and quantify emissions and sequestration of carbon and water in forested and wetland ecosystems of Wisconsin's Northwoods. State-of-the-art research sites and measurement towers exist on Wisconsin National Forest, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and private lands.
Outcomes
Quantification of emissions and carbon/water relationships helps state regulators and land managers quantify and understand the impacts of climate change and land management on Wisconsin's landscapes. Also, this research helps to identify opportunities for mitigation of negative effects by improved land management. Publications and reports have been written, educational talks have been made, and future leaders (current students) have been trained in this field. Additionally, a significant portion of the primarily federal funding for these projects is spent in businesses across the state.
