Oneida Language Preservation Project
The Oneida Nation has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to help preserve its endangered language. The UW-Madison Digital Collections Center will help that effort by preserving and making available historical and newly-created audio and text resources for the Oneida language. Currently, the Oneida Language Pilot Project includes Kindergarten curriculum, songs, and stories in both English and written Oneida. Audio files accompany these texts and provide additional instruction, allowing language learners to read and simultaneously listen to native Oneida speakers present the same material.
