Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW)
SHOW conducts annual statewide surveys of the health status and health-related needs of the population of Wisconsin. Each year SHOW gathers data on a wide variety of health conditions and exposures to provide a current picture of the health of state residents. The SHOW cohort has grown to over 5,100 adults and children at the beginning of 2016, and will be followed longitudinally. The project’s extensive data collection and biological sample repository is made available to qualified researchers and organizations to investigate a myriad potential research questions. The research page at www.show.wisc.edu describes available data.
Outcomes
SHOW has gathered health information and listened to stories from almost every corner of the state. SHOW provides objectively- and subjectively-assessed information on health status and health needs on an annual basis. These data are useful for state policy makers and health agencies to gain knowledge on the needs of the populations they serve. SHOW enables research on many topics, and has released reports about prescription drug use, oral health, and trends in cancer screenings in Wisconsin, to name a few. Recently, research collaborations include: the Survey of the Wausau Area Hmong Project (SWAHP), oral health assessments (https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications/p01074.pdf) and environmental monitoring for the Wisconsin DHS.
