Raising Hell for Justice: An Autobiography of Congressman Dave Obey
David R. Obey (D-Wausau, retired) is the longest-serving member of the U.S. Congress in Wisconsin history and the former chair of the House Appropriations Committee. In his memoir, "Raising Hell for Justice," published by the University of Wisconsin Press (UW Press), Obey looks back on his life in politics beginning with his years in the Wisconsin Legislature and shifting balances between Republicans and Democrats. On a national level, Obey traces, as few others have done, the dramatic changes in the workings of the U.S. Congress since his first election to the House in 1969. He discusses his own central role in the evolution of Congress and ethics reforms.
Outcomes
Congressmen Obey has spoken about his life and about the importance of public service to students and Wisconsin citizens, not only in his congressional district, but all over the state. At Jahnke Bookstore in Wausau, this was their best-selling book in decades, bringing economic support to a locally owned business.
