Women in Government Leadership Program
Wisconsin Women in Government (WWIG) is a bipartisan volunteer organization that recognizes and supports women who choose to pursue a career in government by providing scholarships as well as learning, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Since 2001, WWIG has partnered with the La Follette School to provide Leadership Seminars for women who work at the local state or federal level of government or who interact with the government through private-sector employment. The seminars, which include more than 20 hours of training, are led by La Follette School Professor Susan Yackee and Professor Emeritus Dennis Dresang.
Outcomes
More than 120 women have completed training, which includes hearing a panel of successful business, government and community leaders and being evaluated on presentation skills by another panel of luminaries; including Supreme Court justices, agency heads, trade groups, business and media. The 120 or so women have come from as far as Superior and Tomah, Milwaukee and Platteville, and La Crosse and Wausau, etc.
